Land surveying is in trouble. Fewer young people are entering the profession, and those who do often find themselves without guidance. Mentorship is fading. The older generation is either too busy or waiting for someone to buy their firm so they can walk away without looking back. If this trend continues, we risk losing control of our own profession—and eventually, deregulation.
This blog is my effort to push back.
I’m not at the peak of my career, but I’m not just starting out either. I still have plenty to learn—but I also have plenty to share. I’ve made mistakes, learned from them, and seen too many field crews handed equipment and software with no context. Just press the buttons, make the map, and move on. That’s not good enough.
My goal is to lift up the next generation of surveyors. Because protecting this profession starts with educating the people actually doing the work.
